Kau Inoa – place your name —
to build a Hawaiian governing entity
Much has been accomplished over the past 30 years in developing the Hawaiian community’s ideas and perspectives on Native Hawaiian sovereignty and self-governance. Today, the establishment of a new Native Hawaiian government is on the horizon and can be achieved with the will and support of the Hawaiian people.
The first step in building a Native Hawaiian governing body is to gather a list of people of Hawaiian ancestry who are willing to participate in the process. This enrollment process has now begun, and you can use the registration form available here to kau inoa — place your name — on the list of those who will build the new Hawaiian nation.
Kau Inoa Registration Checklist:
The fastest way to "place your name" on the list of verified Hawaiian participants is to attach a copy of your birth certificate that states Hawaiian, as your race, to your application form. There are other options on the KAU INOA application form to assist you in verifying your Hawaiian ancestry. Please select whichever method is best for you and your ‘ohana.
Use this checklist to confirm that you've completed the appropriate registration requirement before submitting your documents.
Application form for each applicant: "Signed and dated" (DO NOT FAX)
(Please review each section to be sure you’ve checked off all required responses)
Birth Certificate: a photo-copy of your birth certificate stating Hawaiian ancestry
IF YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE DOES NOT STATE HAWAIIAN:
Provide certified document(s) that link your Hawaiian ancestry through your biological* parentage such as a parent, grand-parent, great-grandparent, which can include a Death Certificate that states Hawaiian race.
Or, you may check and initial a box in "Section C" on the application form IF you have received written confirmation of Hawaiian ancestry from any one of the agencies listed. Please check only (1). Doing so will authorize Hawai'i Maoli to certify your ancestry with the appropriate agency.
